What is remedial massage?

Remedial massage is the umbrella term used to describe different massage treatment types that are designed to help with muscle tightness and tension, muscle pain from over-work or weakness and all the connected tissue such as the fascia and ligaments.

Remedial massage treatment types offered:

Musculoskeletal Therapy

Musculoskeletal Therapy is based on Bowen Therapy and the use of the cross fibre technique.

It can be done over clothes and is a quick and efficient way to release tight areas. It has a lasting effect on the body incorporating frictioning across the tight muscles instead of along them like normal massage does. This fractioning resets the signal from the muscles to the brain and allows the muscle to relax with help from the neural system.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue massage can release the chronic tension in the body, reduce pain, increase range of motion, relieve muscle spasms and improve circulation through the use deep strokes and pressure focusing on the getting deep into the muscles and fascia, to provide a deep release and longer lasting relief.

Sports Massage

Sports massage uses trigger point therapy and vigorous strokes to treat the muscles and fascia of the body. Sports Massage helps relieve tightly held areas of the body and provide more movement so as to move more optimally.

After vigorous exercise, build up of waste products and micro-tears in your muscles can leave you feeling tired and sore. Massage increases circulation, aids removal of waste products and promotes healing of the muscle tissue.

PNF Stretching

PNF stretching involves the therapist providing a stretch in a muscle and the client then lightly pushes against the therapist. The client then breathes out and releases the contraction of the muscle and the pressure from the therapist stretches the muscle to its current end range/ stretch limit. This is done multiple times to coach the brain/body connection to release the tight muscle.

Relaxation Massage

Massage is one of the best known antidotes for stress.
Massage can help relieve symptoms associated with anxiety, insomnia and asthma. Massage is an excellent support for people in psychological counselling or addiction treatment.
Relaxation Massage using long slow strokes to calm down the bodies sympathetic nervous system. This can slow the heart rate, reduce stress, can help with recovery.

Myofacial Release

Myofacial Release is a technique that utilises acupressure and stretching that produces a restorative effect upon the body tissues, eliminating pain and rebalancing the body’s movement.

Postural Management

Massage aids to release restrictions in muscles, joints and surrounding fascia to help restore a more natural posture. Relieving shortened tight muscles and addressing weaker structures with exercises and neural stimulation can benefit greatly the pain associated with bad postural habits and curvatures such as scoliosis.

Pregnancy Massage

Massage during pregnancy can relieve lower back pain, cramps and swollen joints that are caused by inflammation in your body, reducing this inflammation helps provide more mobility as well as helps you to relax.

Kym (Veterinarian)

I've been receiving regular treatment from Ryan for around 3 years now, and he's probably the main reason I no longer suffer from debilitating tortecollis episodes in my neck. I have chronic horse riding injuries, including a fused mid-spine section, so I'll likely never be 'normal' but Ryan very quickly figured out what works best for me(trigger points) and has great knowledge and intuitive approach to his treatments. Would definitely recommend.

Neno (Doctor-GP)

Ryan is an upcoming remedial massage genius. Grab him before he gets too famous. He has an intuitive feel for my trigger points. After a session on my left shoulder the tingling in my left finger resolved(which would annoyingly happen when I moved my arm in certain directions) as he freed up the irritation on a nerve from overlying hardened muscle. After every session, I feel a bit younger inside.

Lauren

Ryan was very professional and informed in his craft. He listened to my concerns and explained his processes. My neck was very jarred, and felt so much better after treatment. Knows his stuff!
